In Harmony with Environment and Community
Currently in progress, this innovative design features a courtyard house in Mentawai, Indonesia, comprising three distinct beach houses of varying sizes. Tailored for flexibility, the homes can be rented individually or together as a cohesive unit, centered around a shared communal courtyard. The structure blends sustainability and functionality: the ground level is crafted from locally sourced rammed earth, offering privacy and security, while the upper level features a cantilevered steel framework that maximizes beachfront views and natural ventilation. Upstairs, open living spaces are enclosed with insect and security screening rather than solid walls, with air conditioning reserved for compact, glass-walled bedrooms, striking a balance between comfort and connection to the natural surroundings.
