I might be biased by my time at WOHA, but the Hansar in Bangkok is one of my favourite hotels I’ve ever stayed at (probably in second place after Peter Zumthor’s Therme Vals).
The building was designed by Singapore-based WOHA Architects, who have designed a number of tropical garden hotels including the famous Parkroyal Collection Pickering and Oasia Hotel Downtown.
The building is uniquely suited to the tropical environment: with a shimmering gold sun-shading screen, ample balconies, open-air corridors, and skyrise greenery.
Stepping into the timber-lined lobby feels like walking into a living room. The dramatic double-height spaces are appointed with finely crafted details, furniture and textured materials that make it feel rich.
The tropical theme continues into the hotel rooms, which are centred around courtyards filled with greenery.
One of the highlights of the guestrooms are the balconies, with built in daybeds where you can literally hang out cantilevered above the pool!
The building is mixed-use, with residential apartments above the hotel.
The hotel pool floats above the city, feeling like a tropical resort in the middle of the city.
