At the eastern edge of Singapore’s city centre, a unique urban assemblage takes a place of prominence on the skyline. A set of three unique structures make up a very interesting metropolitan composition: The Gateway by I.M. Pei (1990), DUO by Ole Scheeren (2018), & Parkview Square by DP Architects (2002).
I.M. Pei’s Gateway towers were designed to create an optical illusion of a freestanding two dimensional plane, a striking sight. Urban legend has it that Pei’s razor-sharp twin towers cast bad feng shui onto the faux art deco Parkview building in the distance.
The resplendently decorated Parkview building is colloquially known as the ‘Gotham’ or ‘Batman’ building, and bad luck is rumoured to arise to the occupants! The iconic Atlas Bar was recently featured in the hit HBO show Westworld.
Interesting, the irregular shapes of Ole Sheeren‘s recently completed DUO towers was designed to fix the bad energy of the area. It has resulted in a unique sequence of buildings of three disparate styles!
