Randomly located in the heart of a public housing estate in northeast Singapore is a series of deconstructivist architectural interventions. I heard about these structures many years ago, but only just saw them in person after stumbling upon them while in the neighbourhood.
These abstract follies stand out within the staid context of the surrounding modernist rectangular public housing blocks. A fragmented central pavilion acts as a dynamic public event space. Utilising the same architectural language are a series of faceted shelters, a refreshing contrast to the standard overhead shelter.
The structures are constructed from simple materials, primarily corrugated steel roofing sheet.
It’s refreshing to see such creativity in a public housing estate! I couldn’t find any information online on these structures… does anyone know who the architect is?
