During a recent trip to Seoul, I took the opportunity to check out one of innovative architecture firm SO-IL‘s distinctive works. The Kukje Gallery is located in a historic and heterogeneous district of the South Korean capital, and is carefully inserted into the urban fabric.

Arranged around a pure rectilinear gallery space, any auxiliary spaces are appended to the exterior of the building, creating a nebulous building form respective of the haphazard context. A fine stainless steel mesh encloses the rectilinear box and appendages. This both unifies the building form and blurs definite boundaries, the effect is unique and fantastic. Well worth taking a look at this distinctive building, which epitomises the remarkable work of SO–IL, the architectural studio of Florian Idenburg and Jing Liu.
