I was lucky enough to have a chance to visit the absolutely stunning, recently opened Musée Yves Saint Laurent in Marrakech. Yves Saint Laurent, the renowned French fashion designer, spent a lot of his time in Morocco and the museum is located next door to his iconic blue house. The museum houses a trove of exquisitely curated items from his personal collection.
The finely crafted building by French architectural firm Studio KO is small but beautiful. Constructed from earthy terazzo, terracotta, concrete and brick, the warm and natural material palette blends harmoniously into the Moroccan surroundings.
The spectacular museum is comprised of a series of intimate spaces, with bespoke galleries and crafted courtyards. In response to the arid climate, the building has a solid envelope. The interior sequence is punctuated with tempered framed views: an upwards looking open air courtyard, colour tinted windows, and glazed views into green tiled courtyard.
