Ruin porn alert: On a quiet street just at the fringe of Malacca’s lively town centre is an abandoned villa-style building. It’s shocking to walk by, our first glimpse of the building was at night with a gaping dark unfenced arched entrance just off a quiet street, Jalan Kampung Hulu. It’s completely deserted and open- not sure how long it has been in this state but it is incredible.

Walking through the symmetrical layout of centred rooms, some of Malaysia’s famous street art is framed by old concrete window frames.

The main vertical structural elements were mostly intact, but the floors and roof are decaying remnants of a timber structure collapsing over head.

Trees and other tropical vegetation have begun to take over the building, with dangling roots puncturing through the entire ground floor, reaching for the ground.

Towards the back, an open courtyard  almost resembles an ancient Greek peristyle courtyard, with classical architectural influences imported during the colonial period.
