Space Furniture‘s Singapore gallery is housed within a remarkable pair of conservation buildings, a villa and a shophouse, joined together by a contemporary intervention by WOHA Architects.
The new building is glassy and transparent, positioned between the two heritage buildings. It serves an entry point to the gallery with a central atrium with a mirrored ceiling. A seamless floor pattern from inside to outside makes the contemporary intervention feel like an interstitial space between the two conserved structures.
The combination of traditional and contemporary spaces creates a variety of settings in which to display different types of furniture and home decor. It makes for a very diverse and unique shopping experience.
One of the highlights is an insta-famous iconic spiral staircase with a plate steel handrail and backlit below. It’s one of the few signature WOHA spiral staircases that is open to the public!
Bridge structures hanging within the existing shophouse building provide additional space within within the heritage structures.
A courtyard space with a green wall serves as a perfect display area for outdoor furniture.
