Designed by renowned American architects Tod Williams & Billie Tsien Architects, this cultural centre sits on a hillside site on Hong Kong Island, a rare forested site among the skyscrapers of the city. The site was formerly used by the British military and contains three existing conserved buildings.
The new interventions are fantastic- a dramatic cantilevered pavilion clad in dark green stone is connected to the heritage buildings by a series of angular canopies and bridges. It is a remarkably conceived and detailed building that is a joy to explore and a welcome moment of urban greenery in the dense Hong Kong city centre.
