I hadn’t been to a new building by Zaha Hadid in a while so I was stoked to see her first building in Hong Kong! The 15 storey building is located at a corner in the back of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University campus and houses design and innovation facilities.
The building is striking even from a distance with it’s dynamic leaning form and sleek twisted fin facade.
Similar to Hadid’s building in Seoul, the base of the building is cast from raw off-form concrete, contrasting the sleek curtain wall of the tower above. The base also joins up to the podium levels of the adjacent campus.
The interior is even cooler, with dynamic curves throughout most of the spaces. The fluid forms of the building exterior spiral in through the interior, creating stunning spaces.
Outdoor terraces provide expansive views of the Hong Kong island skyline in the distance.
The circulation spaces are simply fantastic, dynamic voluminous spaces filled with natural light and with staircases flowing curvaceously from level to level.
Thanks to Hong Kong Polytechnic University for the gracious tour of the spectacular building!
