I went recently to check this year’s i Light Marina Bay, Singapore’s sustainable light art festival which will be held annually from this year onwards. You can see the string of installations along Marina Bay, massive projections on the Artscience Museum, and a laser constellation spanning the entire bay:
As usual there were a lot of architecturally interesting installations set before the stunning backdrop of the Singapore skyline.
The Bolt is a stunning abstracted version of lightning by Jun Hao Ong, a Malaysian light artist and architectural designer who has recently been doing some very interesting work in Malaysia, including an LED star that inhabits multiple floors of an abandoned building in Penang.
Well-known Norwegian architectural firm Snohetta made their debut at i Light this year with an eye-catching pavilion made from hundreds of individual solar powered lights which will be donated to communities without access to a stable electrical grid after the event.
A few other interesting installations:
Installation by NUS students where strangely-shaped 3D printed hanging objects create very rational shadows.
