I recently went to check out i Light Marina Bay, an interesting annual urban festival in downtown Singapore. The festival consists of light displays by artists and designers from around the world, arranged as a string of luminescent pearls along the waterfront of Singapore’s iconic Marina Bay Central Business District.
One of the most visible works on display, the iconic ArtScience Museum at Marina Bay Sands was used as a giant projection screen for installation artwork:
One of the other highlights was Janet Echelman’s latest light sculpture, suspended over Marina Bay’s floating stage. It’s not open to the public often, and was a great opportunity to get a unique perspective of Singapore’s stunning skyline!
A number of the works were highly interactive. This ‘cloud’ composed of recycled light bulbs was one of the most popular, constantly flickering as people operated the bulbs via old-school metal chains:
This field of over-sized dandelions was one of the most sustainable installations, made from upcycled plastic water bottles:
An interactive installation comprised of OLED ‘petals’. (Check out the video at the bottom of this post to see it in action).
Another exhibit which engaged the public was this ‘dance floor’ embedded into a grass field, which changed colours when you stepped on one of the glowing circles:
Check out this video showing several of the installations in action:
