Combining community programs and a youth hostel, PERMEABLE PLAZA + CANOPY COURTYARD creates a new public space within the dense historic core of Queretaro, Mexico. The new plaza is embedded with program- while the private hostel floats above as a shade canopy over the plaza, and creates a courtyard-like condition with ventilation, security, views, and interaction with the plaza below. Natural ventilation and green-wall shading eliminate the need for any conditioned space within the building.
