As part of an interdisciplinary programme at the Illinois Institute of Technology in 2009, we collaborated with Studio Gang to develop a design for a home for former victims of sexual trafficking in India. Aiming to create a sustainable design utilising local materials and labor techniques, we found in our research a technology for using non-fired Compressed Earth Blocks (CEB) for construction. We proceeded to construct a full scale mock-up of a section of a brick screen wall as a proof of concept. This construction material shows much promise for low-carbon construction in developing countries. See more photos of the process below!
